A dusk angling session on a pond
One of the advantages of having your rods made up and ready to go is that you can squeeze lots of short sessions in.
That was the case this time, with a visit to a pond.
After a day of rain and milder conditions, you wouldn’t have thought that just twenty-four hours earlier the venue was covered with a sheet of ice.
I did wonder how it would respond, as although it was perfectly fishable, the melted ice would obviously have a negative effect on the water temperature.
With it being between two and three feet deep as well, that was another factor to bear in mind.
However, as long as your bait’s in the water…
I flicked a small waggler towards an overhanging tree and loose fed maggots.
The bait was a couple of white maggots on a size 14 hook.
It took a while before I caught the first fish, then they were regular.
Nature watch: As I packed away, with the light fading, a robin took advantage of my presence by feeding on the maggots I threw it.
Although I didn’t see it, there was a very vocal raven in the surrounding woodland.
