🎣 Early morning angling and the number one tip on fishing with prawn 📻 On the radio 🌲 A walk across the golf course
🎣 Prawn, perch, pike and roach
My fishing plans are very simple.
I do what I fancy.
After yesterday’s session on a small pool, I returned again early morning, to target perch.
My favourite species likes prawn, but roach also have a soft spot for that particular bait, as you can see in the video.
Once again, though, I had problems with small pike in the swim.
Although I cast to the extremes of the spot where I was fishing, nevertheless within seconds, there was a pike in the area.
I still caught though but the catch rate decreased sharply.
The number one tip?
All is revealed in the video.
Tackle, bait and tactics
Greys Prodigy TX 12’ rod. Shimano 3500M reel. Maxima Chameleon 4lb line.
Drennan 1.2g waggler. Drennan Super Specialist size 10 hook.
Fishing one rod length from the bank in open water, as the lilies are now noticeably dying back.
Water was two-feet deep and I trickled in a few maggots on a regular basis, as well as occasional prawns.
Nature notes while fishing
Grey heron looked to land before it realised I was there.
Two adult moorhens on the pool.
Grey wagtail in flight.
Very vocal muntjac in the distance.
Noisy ring-necked parakeet in flight.
Kingfisher perched on overhanging branches.
📻 On the radio
Once home, I got myself ready – showered and changed – to go on Bayside Radio for my weekly chats with Jeff Pearson.
We record the fishing and Welsh football slots in advance and they go out on Thursday and Friday afternoons, respectively.
🌲 Groundhog day in the valley
For the second afternoon on the bounce, I went for a walk with my wife across the golf course which is very close to where we live, on the western slope of the valley.
Of course, our dog joined us as well.
Pretty much, wherever we go, so does Dilwyn the Bedlington terrier.
