In spite of prowling pike, two species on prawn
I got my autumn fishing underway, with a first-light start on a small pool.
Opting for prawn as the chosen bait, I knew that it wouldn’t be anywhere near as productive as if I was using maggot on the hook.
That’s where being focused brings reward though, because there’s nothing like catching a species that you’ve targeted, when you are being very specific in terms of approach.
I battled against a prowling pike, so under the circumstances I was quite pleased with what I caught in the short session.
Tackle, bait and tactics
Greys Prodigy TX 12’ rod. Shimano 3500M reel. Maxima Chameleon 4lb line.
Drennan 1.2g waggler. Drennan Super Specialist size 10 hook.
Fishing one rod-length from the bank in open water, as the lilies are now noticeably dying back.
Water was two-feet deep and I trickled in a few maggots on a regular basis, as well as occasional prawns.

Preaching on the road
It’s been a rare thing since Tipton Family Church closed, but today I found myself back in the pulpit.
An invitation to preach at Endowed Mission in Rowley, saw my wife and I head into the Black Country.
We both thoroughly enjoyed today and, as you can see in the video, they know me only too well.
A late evening walk in the valley
To round off the day, my wife and I, accompanied by Dilwyn, our Bedlington terrier, went for a walk in the local area.
There’s so much to go at in Cotwall End Valley, this time it was a stroll across the eastern slope, where there is a golf course.
