🎣 🌲 💰 Fishing to start the day, Cotwall End Valley and the premium bonds draw

Perch, tench and pike

For the third angling session on the bounce, I fished with prawn in pursuit of perch.

This time, I was in a new place, which was much deeper compared to the previous small pool sessions.

I got off to a good start, with a perch first cast, and then a lost fish on the second chuck.

Can you believe it though, because once again I had a pike in the swim!

Naturally, it affected the fishing, but I still had further action including, what I initially thought was the pike.

It was a tench.

This was followed by two more, one of which I lost.

As always, you can follow the session in the video.

Incidentally, that’s where my own Welsh roots are to be found.

Tackle, bait and tactics

Greys Prodigy TX 12’ rod. Shimano 3500M reel. Maxima Chameleon 4lb line.

Drennan 1.2g waggler. Drennan Super Specialist size 10 hook.

A sharp drop-off from the margins, so fishing in six-feet of water, just off the rod tip.

I presented a single prawn and, due to the depth of water, I created a firm groundbait mix which contained loose maggots and prawns.

Nature notes while fishing

 Muntjac barking in the distance.

Grey wagtail in flight across the pool.

Three days on the bounce

We – my wife and I – enjoyed our previous two walks across the golf course so much, that we made it a hat-trick of strolls.

Of course, Dilwyn, our Bedlington terrier, enjoyed it as well, but then again he does so wherever we go.

September’s premium bonds draw

We didn’t check just after midnight, when the results are declared, this time we waited until mid-morning before we found out how successful – or otherwise – our premium bonds were this month.

As it happened, we did okay.

I had three wins, each one £100, and my wife had one, but it was the same value.

That meant a total of £400 will be deposited in our joint account in due course.

We find the money very useful and it’s very much part of our income, especially now that I am semi-retired, and on the journey to full retirement in due course.
