🛍️ 🎣 Supermarket shopping for perch food and, before Swansea, an early morning angling session
In with the bread, milk and dog food, prawns
Not all bait is limited to fishing tackle shop purchases, in fact the supermarket is a good source.
While you might not be able to get hold of maggots and worms, nevertheless there are other items that are equally effective in their own right.
As you can see in the video, shopping with my wife, I also bought some perch food.

I don’t know where the perch are but another very pleasant surprise
I’m enjoying fishing the small pool that I’m on at the moment, and that’s where I headed for this morning.
One thing I have noticed in recent weeks is that the days are becoming noticeably shorter.
It’s still dark at 5:30 in the morning, whereas a couple of months ago we were well into the hours of daylight.
As far as fishing is concerned though, you just work around that which you have no control over.
You can follow the session in the short video below.
Next stop, Swansea.

Tackle, bait and tactics
Greys Prodigy TX 12’ rod. Shimano 3500M reel. Maxima Chameleon 4lb line.
Drennan 1.2g waggler. Drennan Super Specialist size 10 hook.
A sharp drop-off from the margins, so fishing in six-feet of water, just off the rod tip.
I presented a single prawn and, due to the depth of water, I created a firm groundbait mix which contained loose maggots and prawns.
Nature notes while fishing
Chiffchaff singing in the unexpected very warm weather.
Several grey wagtails (adults and juveniles) in flight across the pool.
Single kingfisher sighting.
