🎣 👂 🌲 Fishing, listen to your body and Cotwall End Valley

The early bird catches the worm

Due to a number of other circumstances, the ideal opportunity for me to fish today was to get out first thing.

I didn’t get to bed until the early hours but, nevertheless, I was still up in order to have a first-light crack at the pool that I was on yesterday.

You can follow the session, and my general thoughts while at the water’s edge, in the accompanying video.

Tackle, bait and tactics

Greys Prodigy TX 12’ rod. Shimano 3500M reel. Maxima Chameleon 4lb line.

Drennan 1.2g waggler. Drennan Super Specialist size 10 hook.

A sharp drop-off from the margins, so fishing in six-feet of water, just off the rod tip.

I presented a single prawn and, due to the depth of water, I created a firm groundbait mix which contained loose maggots and prawns.

Nature notes while fishing

I heard it before I saw it and then the ring-necked parakeet landed in a tree on the far side of the pool, before flying off.

Listen to your body

After fishing, I completed the post-match media from yesterday’s game.

Then I went to bed for a couple of hours. It’s important to listen to your body and there’s more on that in the video.

Another walk along the golf course

My dog loves his walks and, killing two birds with one stone, I put my walking boots on, grabbed my binoculars and took him for a stroll across the golf course.

This was the fourth day on the bounce that I’ve had headed in that direction.

It’s the time of the year when migrating birds can be spotted and, in particular, I keep thinking ‘wheatear’’.

I haven’t seen any yet in the valley, but I live in hope.
