🎣🌲 Can’t get away from tench and a walk around Penn golf course
Another morning and another float-fished prawn session in pursuit of perch
Back on the same venue as the previous outing, I think I should substitute tench for perch because, on the first cast, that’s what I played, netted and banked.
I also added a second tinca later in the short (1.5 hours) session.
The common denominator with all my trips so far this month has been a pike in the swim.
Naturally, it affects the fishing, but on a bigger venue than the opening sessions, it wasn’t as acute a problem.

Tackle, bait and tactics
Greys Prodigy TX 12’ rod. Shimano 3500M reel. Maxima Chameleon 4lb line.
Drennan 1.2g waggler. Drennan Super Specialist size 10 hook.
A sharp drop-off from the margins, so fishing in six-feet of water, just off the rod tip.
I presented a single prawn and, due to the depth of water, I created a firm groundbait mix which contained loose maggots and prawns.
Nature notes while fishing
Three grey wagtails in undulating flight across the pool.
Another golf course walk but a different one this time
Once home from fishing, I went for a walk with my wife and dog, this time to Penn golf course as opposed to the recent ones in our valley.
It’s still local though and, although much closer as ‘the crow flies’, even on the road it is just 2.8 miles away.
I was hoping to see fly agaric but I didn’t even come across one.
