🎣 📻 🌲 Early morning prawn fishing and Bayside Radio, Cotwall End Valley, Debby’s new hobby and in the garden
Early morning prawn fishing
I haven’t been fishing for two days and, although I wasn’t exactly doing cold turkey, nevertheless it was great to get back out on the bank first thing this morning.
As I’ve been commenting a lot recently, the days are noticeably shorter now.
It doesn’t get fully light until well after 6.00 a.m., which if you’re the sort of person that doesn’t like a very early start, then you can get some dawn fishing in without necessarily having to get up in the early hours.
Perch were my target on this occasion, and I did catch, including a nice fish.
I also netted tench as well.
I can’t get away from them, can I?
Not that I’m complaining, though, of course.
Tackle, bait and tactics
Greys Prodigy TX 12’ rod. Shimano 3500M reel. Maxima Chameleon 4lb line.
Drennan 1.2g waggler. Drennan Super Specialist size 10 hook.
A sharp drop-off from the margins, so fishing in six-feet of water, just off the rod tip.
I presented a single prawn and, due to the depth of water, I created a firm groundbait mix which contained loose maggots and prawns.
Nature notes while fishing
Two grey wagtails in their typical undulating flight, across the pool.
A very noisy green woodpecker flew overhead.
Back at the car and ready to go home, three ring-necked parakeets flew over.

Talking Welsh football on Bayside Radio
Getting ready for my weekly chat with Jeff Pearson, for his Bayside radio afternoon show, it was only just before we went on air that I realised that there was going to be no fishing chat today .
Instead, though, we just talked about Welsh football.
There’s more on that in the video above.
A walk along the golf course and Debby has a new hobby
To round off the morning, I went for a walk with my wife and dog on the western slope of the valley.
There is a golf course on some of that section of the valley and, as you can see in the video, my wife has a new hobby!

In the garden to round off the day
Although we’ve had some heavy rain of late, the lawns were surprisingly dry when I ran my hand across them today.
Therefore, I decided to get the lawnmower out and give them a trim.
Even though the grass wasn’t particularly long, the lawns always look nice when they’ve been cut.
I also did some tidying up, gathering leaves, weeding, etc.
By the time I finished, it was 7.00 p.m.
Time certainly flies when you’re having fun.
