🎣 Starting autumn with a nice perch on the Staffs/Worcs Canal, followed by talking fishing on Bayside Radio
Following the meteorological calendar – which is much simpler and perfect for the convenient partition of the angling seasons – I had an early morning start on the Staffs/Worcs Canal to welcome autumn.
I knew the stretch that I was going to fish and, as you do on venues that you are familiar with, also where I intended to set up. However, there was a moored boat on the exact spot, but no problem; I walked a further hundred yards along the towpath and encamped there instead.
The canal gets very busy with boat traffic during the warmer months of the year and consequently the constant water movement means lilies in particular don’t always get the opportunity to take root.
Along with a few reeds, there were lilies in the swim but all growing very close to the far bank.
I fished in the boat channel but the far side, so towards the natural features.
I caught gudgeon, perch and roach and you can follow the session via the video. Of course, the big perch was the highlight but, at the other end of the scale, I thoroughly enjoyed catching the gudgeon.
On the nature front, I heard a pheasant calling twice from the field behind where I fished.
Once home from the session, after taking the dog for a walk, I sat down to record my weekly angling chat with Jeff Pearson for his Bayside Radio show, with footage in the video.
