🎣 Perch fishing with prawn on a small pool 🎶 The Temptations Sing Smokey

🎣 Following a blank on a small pool, I returned to the same venue, in the same spot and fished with an identical bait etc.

There’s nothing like ‘righting’ a ‘wrong’, is there, which I did on this occasion, albeit with a small perch.

Just the one, but at least I wasn’t a blanker, and I was just on the right side of the line.

A couple of my catchphrases there.

I fished a couple of lengths from the bank in water that was five feet or so deep.

It’s very clear, so the three hours I had at first light were perfect.

I lobbed out balls of brown crumb laced with prawns and red maggots, fishing the largest prawns from the packet.

With lots of roach plucks, no doubt using lighter gear etc I would have caught a lot more.

That’s the focus of specimen angling though, where you concentrate on quality over quantity.

Even if you only catch a small perch, at least the intent is there.

Tackle: Fox Barbel Special 1.5 test curve rod and an Okuma Zeon reel. 6lb Maxima Chameleon, with a six-inch hook-length created by a small shot and an 8mm bead. Above that was a 1/2 ounce bomb. Size 10 Drennan Super Specialist hook.

Nature notes: Three grey wagtails together on overhanging far bank branches. Wren singing in the immediate area. Both mistle thrush and song thrush feeding on grass.

🎶 Although I’ve changed the album that I’m listening to in the car, I’m still with The Temptations.

This time it’s back to 1965, and their second release, The Temptations Sing Smokey.

As it says, all the tracks are written by Smokey Robinson and include two of my favourites (although I love all their songs), The Way You Do The Things You Do and It’s Growing.

Plus, the classic, My Girl.
