🎣 An early start with bream and roach on the bank 🏡 Five hours working in the home and garden

🎣 It was another late night, followed by an early rise.

I don’t know how I do it, but I do, and that’s all that matters.

We are currently enjoying a good spell of weather and it’s dry, calm and warm as far as the conditions are concerned.

Setting off from my drive while it was still dark, the air temperature was 7C. Just weeks ago, we’d have settled for that in the day, never mind as an overnight low.

I fished about twenty yards from the bank on a pool, into open water that was about six feet deep.

Fishing a single grain of sweetcorn over balls of brown crumb and corn, I had a bream first cast.

It’s always nice to get off to a good start.

I caught one other bream and a small roach, in just over two hours.

Tackle: Fox Barbel Special 1.5 test curve rod and an Okuma Zeon reel. 6lb Maxima Chameleon, with a six-inch hook-length created by a small shot and an 8mm bead. Above that was a 1/2 ounce bomb. Size 10 Drennan Super Specialist hook.

Nature notes: Noisy ring-necked parakeet in the wider area. Chiffchaff singing. Blackcap singing. Grey wagtail in low flight across the pool.

🏡 As soon as I got home, I started to work outdoors.

Nature notes: Grey heron in low flight across the pool. Resident grey wagtail, making regular visits to a nesting site. Song thrush singing from tree alongside the pool, also a bird in flight. Pair of mistle thrushes on grass.

I had a few cement projects to do and, taking advantage of the warm, dry weather, that’s where I started.

The washing line pole, which I did a few days ago, needed a more substantial hole digging. Then I cemented around the washing machine pipe, did some pointing on general brickwork and repaired the step into the garage.

I did some work on one of the water features on the patio, assembled our new lawnmower and then gave it a debut on the lawns, as well as general gardening.

Five hours in total. Time flies when you’re having fun.
