🎣 A cold start to a small pool angling session
The days are pleasant at the moment but the nights are still chilly.
Before I could leave home this morning, I had to engage with the ice on the car windshield.
Fishing with maggots, I presented one white over loose fed red/white, in five-feet of water just over one-rod length from the bank.
After the drop-off from the shallow margins, that’s as deep as the small pool gets.
The first fish was a perch and, returning it to the water, I didn’t need a thermometer to tell me it was cold.
It was a very slow two hours and I caught two perch and one roach.
At least I wasn’t a blanker.
Tackle: Greys Prodigy TX 12’ rod. Shimano 3500M reel. Maxima Chameleon 4lb line. Drennan 1.2g float. Drennan Super Specialist size 16 hook.
Nature notes: Two ring-necked parakeets in the immediate area. Raven calling in flight. Grey heron flew overhead. Chiffchaff singing (not seen). Pair of grey wagtails in low flight across the pool.
