🎣 A cold start on the penultimate day of the river fishing season
I was up early again this morning, and I was thankful for the blanket that I had placed across the windshield during the night, as heavy ice had formed.
On the penultimate day of the river fishing season, I once again headed for the brook that I’ve been on many times so far this year, chasing three-spined sticklebacks.
I knew that it would be slow, due to the sub-zero temperature, but nevertheless I did catch.
The biggest fish was 3g, which although nowhere near the ones I had in the previous two sessions, is still a specimen weight for the species.
The video begins outside the tackle shop the day before, and then in the village close to where we live, before finally covering action from the water’s edge.
Tackle: Poachers Pocket mini-rod and reel. Reel line was 4lb Maxima Chameleon straight through. A small shot was nipped on the line, four inches from the Drennan Super Specialist size 16 hook. Bait was a single white maggot, which I nipped with scissors.
Nature notes: Three song thrushes singing on the walk to the brook and two on the way back.
