I was looking forward to watching the Women’s Euro final between England and Spain.
However, Sunday at 5.00 p.m. conflicted with church.
I didn’t check on the score while the service was on but, as soon as we had the final amen, I was on the way along the lane and back home.
Although I missed the bulk of the action, I caught the exciting finale of some extra-time and the penalty shootout.
Fantastic! Well done England women!
The England flag proudly continues to hang over my garage door at home.
I haven’t had a visit from the police yet, asking me if I’m far-right, but many a true word said in jest.
The following morning, I was out on a pool mini-jigging for perch.
It was a short session and, although I didn’t bank any monsters, I had plenty of action and thoroughly enjoyed myself.
Tackle: Greys G Lite 6’ Spin (4-8 lb), Fox Rage Ultron 2500 reel, 18lb Sufix 832 low vis green braid on reel. Drennan Double Strength 10lb (3m) joined to the braid with a small swivel. Micro jig head 0.7g, size 6 hook. Small rubber fish. All knots (3) blood knots.
Nature notes: Great black-backed gull low over the surface on arrival, searching out food. One adult and one juvenile great crested grebe on the lake. Several swifts. Kingfisher in flight, low over the pool. Grey heron passed through. Ring-necked parakeet heard (but not seen) from a copse alongside the pool.

We record the slot – which lasts for just over thirty minutes- in advance and it goes out Thursday afternoon.
It’s always an opportunity to present fishing to the wider public, which is something that all of us, regardless of the platform that presents itself, should be doing.
