A trio of tench from a lake, how to tell a male tinca from a female and another Ian Clarke appearance
Following on from back-to-back evening canal sessions, it was an early morning start on a lake this time round.
The weather has also returned to warm and dry as well, although not officially heatwave status.
In fact, it’s quite pleasant and I was fishing in a tee-shirt from the off.
Targeting tench, I caught a couple of males and a female, with identification guidelines in the video.
Most fish are identical when it comes to sex but, with the tinca, you can easily differentiate been the two.
I was joined by Ian Clarke, this time he wasn’t fishing though, as he dropped by on his way to work.
Kev got a mention as well. ‘The curse’ has exhausted itself, now it’s time for some ‘Kev’.

Tackle: Fox Barbel Special 1.5 test curve rod and an Okuma Zeon reel. 6lb Maxima Chameleon, with a six-inch hook-length created by a small shot and a bead. Above that was a 1/2 ounce bomb. Size 12 Drennan Super Specialist hook.
Nature notes: Several swifts. Two great crested grebe adults and a juvenile feeding. Kingfisher in flight. Common sandpiper low over the water.
