🚁 🎣 Drama in the early hours, followed by a fishing session

📹 Watch the accompanying video

Although I had set the alarm for an early start anyway, I was woken much earlier than expected, as you can see in the video.

The helicopter was so low at times and, of course therefore very noisy, I thought they were filming the new James Bond movie.

Once it had moved on, I had an hour of sleep and then was up at the original time that I intended.

Fishing a small pool, I continued with the prawn over maggots approach that I’ve enjoyed very much in recent sessions.

I got off to a great start with a couple of perch on the bank in successive costs.

Then it went very quiet, and I saw why, when I noticed pike action in the swim. They don’t go very big in this particular venue but, nevertheless, big enough to affect the fishing when you are targeting roach or perch, which are the predominant species in there.

I did manage a roach though, which was quite a small fish and therefore a surprise, when you consider the size of the bait and the hook.

Tackle: Greys Prodigy TX 12’ rod. Shimano 3500M reel. Maxima Chameleon 4lb line. Drennan 1.2g waggler. Drennan Super Specialist size 10 hook.

Nature notes: Several kingfisher sightings, single birds and a pair together. Ring-necked parakeets, heard but not seen. Grey wagtail in flight. Possible merlin but very brief and therefore not confirmed. Worth mentioning though.
