I’ve discovered an angling gold mine

An occasional question that pops up on my Bayside Radio angling slot runs along the lines of, ‘There’s a small pool that I know, which is never fished. Is it worth having a go?’

My answer is that it’s always worth it, and ultimately, it’s the only way you’ll find out what’s in there.

Putting my words into practice, I set off for such a venue myself at first light.

I didn’t even take a chair, as there’s no room for one.

The place is very overgrown and just casting out without a major tangle is an achievement in itself.

I sat on my unhooking mat, slipping and sliding on the mud but full of excitement, due to the fact that I was fishing the unknown.

It was a short visit and I caught just three fish but two of them were superb.

The bream was massive, when you take the venue into account, but the roach was absolutely stunning.

I only checked them the other day, but can you believe it, when I got my scales out the battery was dead.

I can only assume the ‘on’ button had been pushed while in my rucksack, therefore draining the battery.

It didn’t take away from the experience though and it goes without saying that I’ll be back.

With a new battery in the scales.

I fished two white maggots over brown crumb and mixed maggots.

Tackle: Greys Prodigy TX 12’ rod. Shimano 3500M reel. Maxima Chameleon 4lb line. Drennan 0.6g waggler. Drennan Super Specialist size 14 hook.

Nature notes: Blackcap singing in trees next to the pool.

  1. £75 same as last month for me my brother did better with £200 this month but it’s his first win in along time . Any amount is a bonus and been lucky the last 12 months to win something good luck for next month .

    1. You did better than me, but then again we have had some decent wins recently.
I’ll just have to postpone my full retirement until May at the earliest now!
