No April 1 fishing joke on me and leave the towpaths alone
The clock’s have gone forward, we’re now in April, and the signs of spring are all around us.
What better way to get a new month underway than a morning session on the Staffordshire/Worcestershire Canal?
That’s a rhetorical question, by the way.
Not only the fact that I’m semi-retired, but also a decade of working in football, means that weekends and bank holidays don’t have the same meaning for me as they do to many people.
They’re invariably busier.
As far as fish activity was concerned though, my scaled friends were on a go-slow.
April 1 angling and the joke was on me, or so it looked for a while.
Well, not quite in the end, as I did manage to keep on the right side of the line with small perch activity.
While fishing, the Canal & River Trust people turned up with their strimming and mowing equipment.
I share my thoughts on that in the video.
What also happens once they’ve done their stuff is that vegetation ends up on the surface of the canal, where it then rots and causes deoxygenation.
This is the link that I refer to in the video: click
Tackle: Greys Prodigy TX 12’ rod. Shimano 3500M reel. Maxima Chameleon 4lb line. Drennan 0.6g waggler. Drennan Super Specialist size 14 hook.
Nature notes: Very vocal chiffchaff in the immediate area.
£75 same as last month for me my brother did better with £200 this month but it’s his first win in along time . Any amount is a bonus and been lucky the last 12 months to win something good luck for next month .
You did better than me, but then again we have had some decent wins recently.
I’ll just have to postpone my full retirement until May at the earliest now!
