Sea fishing at Rhyl, the first session of the holiday, and chatting with Jeff Pearson

There was no fishing on vacation arrival day, as once I’d got settled in it was off to a working football game.

The following day, however, it was on track as the sea angling gear put in an appearance for the first time this year.

After being out and about in the area during the day itself, I set off for a late session at Rhyl harbour, although as with all the sessions this week, technically on the Kinmel Bay side of the river.

I was joined by Jeff Pearson, who presents the afternoon show on Bayside Radio, which is based just along the coast at Colwyn Bay.

A considerable chunk of the video is taken up with chat, where we talk memories, angling and even the 20 mph speed limit in Wales.

As for the fishing, that’s in the video, and I caught three rockling (three-bearded) on lugworm.

I do like them as a species.

I fished ninety minutes up to high water and likewise beyond.

Tackle: 12ft Okuma Salina rods, Jarvis Walker Mirage 7000 reels. 20lb line, two-hook rigs and 4 ounce leads. Size 2/4 Aberdeen hooks.
