Walking back to the car, which was about half a mile, I didn’t see one single fish top either.

Normally, once you’re into dusk, there are lots of fish showing, even if they’re just small roach.

It explained why I’d blanked, as the fish just weren’t moving at all.

It’s the way it is sometimes, especially in winter.

Tackle: Greys Prodigy TX 12’ rod. Shimano 3500M reel. Maxima Chameleon 4lb line. Drennan 0.6g waggler. Drennan Super Specialist size 14 hook.

Nature notes: Pair of mistle thrushes in late dusk flight, as well as 14 ravens making their way to roost.

They weren’t all together, but ranged from a single bird to a group of five, all heading in the same direction (Himley).
