Little egrets from the window
I’m usually up early to go fishing, but on this occasion, angling came at the end of the day, or at least that was the plan.
I took advantage of being up though first thing by doing some birding from the upstairs window.
Although we live in a bungalow, with it being a dormer we get the best of both worlds, so to speak.
Especially as we live on the side of a valley, with a wide expanse of sky to gaze on, plus extensive woodland, it’s like having your own personal – and very comfortable – hide.
Not overlooking any immediate neighbouring windows is also a big positive.
It was great to see my first garden and valley (I keep lists for both) little egret of the year.
It was in flight, making its way along the bottom of the valley, heading in a northerly direction.
Half an hour later and another little egret was taking exactly the same route.
As far as numbers are concerned in 2024, that’s 45 and 32 species for the valley and garden respectively so far.
