When does a pond become a pool, a mid-morning pool angling session and a bizarre encounter

Fish from the pool session.

When does a pond become a pool?

There’s no legal definition but it’s all about size and personal perception.

On a much bigger venue than I’m used to of late, and with six feet of water under the rod tip, I’d say that it wasn’t big enough to be a lake but definitely larger than a pond.

I mixed brown crumb though on this occasion, as I wanted to get the bait on the deck, rather than have it intercepted by tiny roach on the way down.

My approach was the same though, a small waggler and two white maggots on a size 14 hook.

In terms of the classification of venues, I would say that generally speaking, the bigger the water, the bigger the fish.

Not always but, as I stress, generally that is the case.

On this occasion, I had lots of roach action and a few of them are in the video, as well as the pool itself.

The fact it was mid-morning and the day was dry and pleasant meant there was more disturbance, including one woman who bizarrely sent her dog in at one end and then promptly walked the bank with the dog swimming along.

Consequently, it went right through where I was fishing.

I did look at her, and I’m not being trying to be unkind, but she looked like she was ‘not quite with it’, as they say.

Still, it was a strange thing to do.

As an angler, I’m sure you’ve had these type of encounters?
