Prawn fishing for perch

I shared the approach in recent blog posts, in terms of tackle used, but I did say I was going to do some regular fishing for perch using prawn as the bait.

I have caught them before, on the Staffordshire/Worcestershire Canal when using prawn, as well as bream, although it hasn’t been a bait that I’ve fished with a lot.

On the same pond where I had the last-minute bite recently, I returned to see if I could connect properly this time.

Baiting up on arrival, with brown crumb, a few maggots and prawn sections, I threw three balls to the edge of an overhanging tree.

I was there for a couple of hours and although I did have one bite, when I struck all that came back from the lead, bead and shot down was hanging line.

Inevitably, it was a pike.
