As long as… You know the score
Not by design but I find myself on a mini-challenge at present, concerning a particular spot on the Staffordshire/Worcestershire Canal.
It’s the one I’ve been to on my last three visits and where I headed for first thing this morning as well.
On the one hand, the water temperature is falling and the canal is extremely clear.
However, in the past it has been a productive spot, even if more quality than quantity, which suits me anyway.
The approach I took is a familiar one if you follow my blog adventures regularly.
Fishing the boat channel, beneath far bank trees that provide cover, I flicked two white maggots on a size 14 hook out and watched the orange tip of a small waggler.
Although I’ve managed to end up on the right side of the line on my two previous visits, on this occasion I was back to square one, when I blanked on my first trip.
Or so I thought.
Two hours in and not any movement whatsoever from the float, then it dipped slightly.
There was obviously interest but would it develop?
The answer to that was yes and I was extremely thrilled to net the perch that you can see in the video below.
Funnily enough, I was having a WhatsApp conversation with my friend, Ian Clarke, while fishing and the perch came just after, in reference to having not caught anything, when I wrote the following words…
‘As long as your bait’s in the water though…’
It’s a great principle, isn’t it?
Not just for angling either but life in general.
As the rain moved in, which was quite heavy at times, I banked two more perch, as well as having the luxury of several enquiries that didn’t progress.
Plus a hook pull from a bigger fish.
As long as…
You know the score.
