Still, as long as your bait’s in the water…
On my last angling session, I mentioned that I was speaking to my friend, Ian Clarke, on WhatsApp.
I told him where I was fishing and a day later, guessing correctly that I would be on the same stretch again, he dropped by on his way to work and we had a nice chat.
Fishing a couple of white maggots on a size 14 hook in the boat channel, I had three bites early on that resulted in a small perch on the bank and a hook pull on a bigger fish.
Then it went quiet. Very quiet.
It is tough going at the moment on the Staffs/Worcs Canal and that’s been reflected in the fact that, in the sessions I’ve done over the last week, I haven’t seen a single fish top or show itself in any way.
Still, as long as your bait’s in the water…
