Starting the working week fishing on the canal

There’s more in the video but the start to the day was an example of how we need to be flexible in life, never mind our angling.

When one door closes, go through another. Or, in my case, when one road is shut drive along the next one instead.

The bottom line though was that I went angling.

I visited the stretch of canal where I’ve done a couple of sessions recently.

It was a cold start to the day – I had to scrape ice off the windshield before leaving home – and the water was clear.

I was confident though and I did catch. Just.

Fishing the boat channel, I presented two white maggots on a Drennan Super Specialist size 14 hook.

I mixed brown crumb, added a handful of red and white maggots and trickling it out over the session, I fished over that.

The float was a 0.8g waggler, or should I say ‘the’ because it’s become a close companion this year.
