Gee, but it’s great to be back home

I love holidays but now that I’m semi-retired, there isn’t a big difference from being away for a week to living at home.

There used to be though and that’s the case for many people who have full-time jobs and full-on lifestyles.

Vacation time is where you can get away and cut yourself off from the hustle and bustle of normal routine.

Holidays are great but they aren’t real life, in the sense that you can escape for a week but you can’t run forever.

My personal position is that I love the time away, but once it comes to an end I look forward to being home again.

After all, it is my hiraeth and home is where the heart is.

We didn’t get home until late, so it was dark.

The following morning though, I was up first thing to top up the feeding station in the garden.

It was empty, following our week away, but almost immediately eight or so tits (blue, coal and great) were on there.

These were followed within minutes by a chaffinch, collared doves, goldfinch, robin, magpies, stock dove and wood pigeon.

Looking out across the valley, with the sun rising over the eastern ridge, the lyrics of a certain song came to mind.

Gee, but it’s great to be back home.
