In spite of a pike in the swim, I caught
The weather is starting to turn, although first thing this morning it was still very pleasant and I fished in polo shirt and shorts.
On a small woodland pool, the water was just one foot deep.
Fortunately, at that time of the day you don’t get too many people passing by and, more to the point, no dogs in the water.
I fished with my usual float rod approach, going for a small waggler with shot either side so that the two white maggots on a size 14 hook sank naturally.
I was only dropping the float in, so fishing off the rod tip there was no need to cast as such.
The vegetation is dying off now, as we move on in the month, and in no time at all we’ll all be wrapped up in thermals at the water’s edge.
In the meantime though, I’m enjoying the present.
Never wish your life away.
On the session I caught lots of roach, in spite of a small pike being in the area from the off.
I fed opposite ends of the swim and managed to stay one step ahead of the predator.
