It was nine years ago today
Nine years ago today, I made my debut on TNS Radio.
It’s actually the subject of my programme column for the next home game, which has already been sent, ahead of the publishing deadline.
Therefore, rather than write all the information again, I’ve copied and pasted the article below.
Good evening and welcome to Park Hall, as we host Aberystwyth Town on JD Cymru Premier MD5.
Just two days ago, on August 29, it was nine years to the day that I began my working involvement with The New Saints.
I had been attending games prior to that, scheduled around my Wolverhampton Wanderers’ season ticket, but I never imagined that one day I would be in the press box, as opposed to the stand behind the goal.
The life lesson is quite clearly that you never know what’s around the corner, do you?
The club had been posting on Twitter, as it was then, that they were looking for someone to come and do some commentary on TNS Radio that they were launching.
I never for one moment thought of it as an opportunity for myself, but Sarah Roberts did, and she was instrumental in the club getting in touch with me.
The rest, as they say, is history.
The first game that we did on radio was The New Saints versus Rhyl.
I’ve still got the team sheet (it was the start of my now rather extensive personal football memorabilia collection) and just Adrian Cieslewicz (it was his first season as well) and Chris Marriott remain as players.
However, Greg Draper, Paul Harrison, Chris Seargeant and Simon Spender are all involved in coaching roles.
Alex Darlington, who is still playing, and will be here today with Aberytwyth Town, was in the starting XI on the day.
Finally, the Rhyl side featured a young centre-half by the name of Ryan Astles!
Thank you for your support and enjoy the game.
