Alberbury, where my Welsh and English roots first entwined

On the way to the upper Severn, I passed through Alberbury.

It’s a Shropshire village but right on the border. The welcome to Wales and Alberbury signs are on opposite sides of the road to each other. You can’t get closer than that.

On my paternal line, John Manley (family from Radnorshire) met Sarah Thomas who lived in Alberbury.

They got married, had children and while some moved back to Wales, one in particular went the opposite way.

Across Shropshire and into Staffordshire, it’s where my grandfather and father were born.

Prior to the union between John and Sarah, at that time my paternal roots were 100% Welsh.

The English is much more recent.
