First crucian carp outing of the year — More potholes than road

First crucian carp outing of the year

I’ve really enjoyed catching bream, perch, roach and tench of late but I found my piscatorial thoughts straying.

In particular, my mind was being wooed by what is one of the more elusive species – in terms of both availability and catching – that we find in our waters.

The crucian, although it’s tiny compared to the others, is most definitely my personal favourite of all fish that bear the carp name.

I do know a handful of venues that contain them and that, in itself, tells you how uncommon they are.

The pool that I headed for on this occasion is extremely unusual in the sense that, apart from tench, there are no other species in there.
