A football day, fishing on a pool, the importance of pike and celebrating the great British drive

Tackle, approach and bait

I went for the grain of corn on a size 10 hook approach, fishing with a quiver tip rod.

It’s been my standard route of late for the pools that I’ve fished and I’ve shown the set-up in numerous recent videos.

Although the line is 6lb (Maxima Chameleon) it doesn’t deter even the small roach.

The place that I fished this morning is hardly what you would call pressured.

I was fishing a couple or so rod lengths from the bank, which in effect is the middle of the pool.

The depth was about four feet and the bottom was relatively clear.

I fished over brown crumb and corn.
