Garden nature diary – November 2022

November 17

Sitting in the upstairs room looking over the valley, while I drink a cup of tea.

Plenty of birds visible in the short time I was there.

Birds seen: great spotted woodpecker, house sparrow (m,f), wood pigeon, dunnock, blue tit, great tit, black-headed gull, goldfinch, magpie, carrion crow, lesser black-backed gull, greenfinch, blackbird (f), robin, chaffinch (m, f).

I also saw a peregrine falcon, a new bird from the garden this year, which takes me to 43.

It was high over the eastern ridge of the valley, in lazy flight.

It looked as if the wings were going to be arched on one occasion but that didn’t develop.

A male sparrowhawk flew through the garden later.
