Brook fishing to start the day, followed by a working tour of the Black Country
With a full day’s (paid) work ahead of me, as far as fishing was concerned I managed a very short session on a brook, after three-spined sticklebacks at first-light.
Short was the operative word and, although I had a few very small fish drop off as I lifted them from the water, I did manage a specimen of 3.2g on the bank.
When you consider that the British record is 8g, that’s a decent fish as far as percentage is concerned. There are some really big fish in the brook in question, but it’s been such a good breeding season that the tiddlers are on the maggot immediately,
It’s not a problem though, and actually it’s brilliant, because the next generation of specimens are in the making.
I wanted to stay longer but work was calling. In this instance, it was driving and I covered a few miles with a working tour of the Black Country.
I was in Dudley, West Bromwich and Kingswinford twice, Halesowen once and Gornal Wood. They were just the destinations, so if you included the areas I passed through, it would have been quite extensive.
My job was collecting and returning customers’ cars and I drove numerous MGs, a Nissan Juke and a Vauxhall Mokka, with a couple of them using trade plates.
I really enjoyed the day, it was good. I’m pleased with how my quest for work has gone so far this year.
