🎣 Buying bait in Holyhead and rock fishing for wrasse at Trearddur Bay

When we’re on holiday, initial arrival involves several things from checking in, visiting the local supermarket… and buying bait.

Yes, the fishing show continues, as I make the most of being by the coast.

This time the base was Trearddur Bay and the plan was to float fish off rocks for wrasse.

I caught both ballan and corkwing wrasse, as well as a small pollock on my first session.

Bait was ragworm and I fished a couple of hours up to high tide.

The hook was set at ten feet deep, which was well over the kelp and rock structure below and I found that, although it was an incoming tide, I didn’t have to adjust the float depth.

I had a bite every cast.

A great start to the week’s fishing.

Tackle: SeaTech Outlaw 12’ telescopic rod and Daiwa Jupiter Z 6000 reel, loaded with 20lb line. The float was 5” and the hooklength 2’. Size 1/2 Kamasan Aberdeen hook. Ragworm.

Nature notes: Nesting oystercatchers on the cliff, with the male on a vantage point becoming very vocal if anyone passed by.
