Big Ben Calling (1935)
Also known as Radio Pirates. Disappointed that his music isn’t being played on a wider basis, a composer, along with his friends, sets up a pirate station.
They’re hunted down by the police but manage to stay one step ahead.
The music of the time is brilliant and the outdoor footage of what London was like makes you sad when you see what it’s become today.
Stars: Leslie French, Mary Lawson, Willie Jenkins, Enid Stamp-Taylor, Hughie Green, Kenneth Kove.
Went The Day Well? (1942)
When British soldiers arrive at Bramley End (a fictitious village) all seems well.
However, the villagers’ growing suspicions are confirmed when they turn out to be Germans, who are there ahead of an invasion from Europe.
They then turn very nasty and several of the inhabitants are killed.
The British spirit wins through in the end though, as they manage to alert their own forces.
The German soldiers are all killed.
Stars Leslie Banks, Mervyn Johns and Thora Hird.
Escape To Witch Mountain (1975)
In this Disney movie, Tony and Tia Malone (played by Ike Eisenmann and Kim Richards) are orphans who possess supernatural powers.
Spotted by a businessman who wants to exploit their powers, they go on the run, assisted by a kind widower who is exploring the country in a motor home.
Led by their powers to Witch Mountain, they realise that they are aliens who came to earth but got separated on arrival from the others.
They reunite at the end and the scene is set for the sequel in the series.
Return From Witch Mountain (1978)
Tony and Tia Malone (played by Ike Eisenmann and Kim Richards) return for the lead roles in the second film in the series.
Going for a visit to Los Angeles, Tony is kidnapped by two greedy villains who try to use his powers for evil.
They’re played by Christopher Lee and Bette Davis.
Tia, along with some young earthling friends, foils the plan and in the end they safely return to Witch Mountain.
The Legend Of The Lone Ranger (1981)
Klinton Spilsbury is the Lone Ranger and Michael Horse is Tonto.
After the former saves the latter’s life when they’re young children, he returns the favour when they become adults.
They both seek justice against a band of renegades, which they get.
The Lone Ranger (2013)
The Disney movie stars Armie Hammer as the Lone Ranger and Johnny Depp as Tonto.
In 1933 a young boy visits an exhibition about the wild west and while he’s looking at a scene, the native comes to life.
It’s Tonto, and in flashbacks he tells the boy the story of his partnership with the Lone Ranger.
A very clever storyline and a good movie overall.
