🎣 It’s all about the challenge and the first tench of the year
I wrote in a blog post a couple of days ago that my angling approach had changed, with it best being summed up as ‘quality over quantity’.
It’s always nice when a plan comes together and that was the case this morning, when I netted my first tench of 2025.
Not only was it a very chilly start to the day but the pool in question isn’t a noted venue for the species.
Regarding the aforementioned blog post, the final line was ‘It’s all about the challenge’.
The pool I fished is a couple of metres deep and I presented a single grain of corn over loose corn a couple of rod-lengths from the bank in open water.
Tackle: Greys Prodigy TX 12’ rod. Shimano 3500M reel. Maxima Chameleon 4lb line. Waggler float 1g. Drennan Super Specialist size 10 hook.
Nature notes: Song thrush singing from woodland in the immediate area. Three stock doves together. Two ravens in flight. Chiffchaff singing in immediate area.
