🎣 An early morning angling session on a small pool
The weather has changed during the week and the wet and windy spell continues, although it’s hardly torrential or gale force.
For this session I was back to an early morning start. It’s a great time to be out and about generally, never mind fishing.
On a small pool, I was presenting a single grain of corn, over sweetcorn, 2-3 rod-lengths from the bank in about six-feet of open water.
I had the first roach about twenty minutes in and then I had a busy spell, albeit with small fish, which took me to the hour mark.
The final hour was very quiet. Every time I threw corn in the water, I saw the flash of the pike as it smashed into the roach.
Not a huge predator but big enough to seriously affect the fishing.
I continued anyway, as my target was tench, and they wouldn’t have been as bothered by the small jack.
I didn’t connect with a tinca but, as I’ve stated on several occasions, on this water they are needles in a haystack.
Tackle: Greys Prodigy TX 12’ rod. Shimano 3500M reel. Maxima Chameleon 4lb line. Waggler float 1g. Drennan Super Specialist size 12 hook.
Nature notes: Grey heron in margins. Grey wagtail in its undulating flight low over the pool. Kingfisher passed through.
