🎣 Football and a late night didn’t prevent an early rise on the fishing front
It was a chilly start to the day and, as I loaded the car, the decision to switch to a pool was the right one.
The plan was to fish a couple of lengths from the bank with a large grain of sweetcorn over loose corn.
There will be lilies etc in due course on the pool but, for now, it’s featureless.
The fish are still there though and that’s the important thing.
It was an all-roach catch but, in reference to my last angling-related blog post, the larger hook and bait definitely separated the better fish from the hordes of tiddlers.
Tackle: Greys Prodigy TX 12’ rod. Shimano 3500M reel. Maxima Chameleon 4lb line. Waggler float 1g. Drennan Super Specialist size 10 hook.
Nature notes: Song thrush singing from a tree beyond the far bank plus a silent pair in flight across the pool. Grey heron in the margins when I arrived, a second sighting followed by two together. Pair of ravens in low flight. Pair of grey wagtails landed on low overhanging branches. Nuthatch in tree next to where I fished.
