🎣 Hello, May, and starting the month how I intend to carry on, with a successful tench session
Today is the first day of the final month of spring and, taking into account the weather that we’ve been having recently, you could be forgiven for thinking that summer has arrived early.
However, looking at the forecast, we are stepping back into spring from the weekend onwards. With an overnight April end of a 9C low though, I wanted to take advantage of the current conditions and target a tinca. Or two but let’s not get carried away.
The small pool in question is one that I’ve previously described as a needle-in-a-haystack water when it comes to tench. They’re in there but not in numbers. It’s not the sort of place where you’re looking at multiple fish.
In fact, if you catch one, you’re over the moon. I know one other angler who fishes it for tincas and, like me, he’s up for the challenge. The last time I spoke with him he hadn’t caught one in numerous visits yet this year.
That’s the backdrop to the venue, and the session that launched the month of May, as far as my own angling is concerned. I fished from first light for three hours and, as you can see from the video, it was mission accomplished.
