🎣 Angling | Winter tench fishing in spring

Winter tench fishing in spring? Well, although we are in the back end of April, it certainly felt like a winter’s day first thing this morning.

The main culprit was the gusty wind from the north. We often hear the term ‘wind chill factor’ and I’m sure we all know that – and have felt – its effect from time to time.

For the second angling session, as I push on in my 65th year, I was back in the same place as yesterday. I was encouraged by my birthday bream and, especially as I had some brown crumb and corn left over, I fancied a return visit.

Therefore, that’s exactly what I did. One of the benefits about being a (mainly) solo angler is that I can please myself. If I wanted to, I could go to bed thinking I’m on the canal the following morning but, once I wake, I can change my mind and go to a lake.

The pool in question from today’s session does contain tench – and I caught a brace recently – but it’s not a noted tinca venue. There are lots of places that fall into that category. The species is in there but they aren’t prolific.

It’s all about challenge and it was certainly that today. I had a couple of lightning quick roach flicks on the rod and that was it. I still managed to produce a video though, and a longer-length one at that. It’s an experiment that I’m working on at the moment.
