🏴 Welcome to Rhyl: Blue Bridge, Rhyl harbour, Pont y Ddraig
I needed to get some lugworm to complete the holiday’s fishing so, along with my wife and dog, we paid a visit to Geoff’s Tackle & Bait in Rhyl.
The intention was to spend a couple of hours walking around the town. However, the extremely strong winds, followed by heavy rain, meant that it wasn’t ideal for a tourist afternoon.
Instead, as per the video we went for a walk over the Blue Bridge as it’s known locally, as well as by its other name, the Foryd Bridge. Opened in 1932, it replaced a stone toll bridge and cost £10,000.
Then, after walking alongside Rhyl harbour – which is very different to what it looked like in the sixties – we crossed the more modern Pont y Ddraig, which is The Dragon’s Bridge in English.
Opened in 2013 – costing £4.3 million – it is a pedestrian bridge only, and opens from the centre, to allow taller vessels through when required. Nothing was moving today but I have seen it operational in the past.
