After work, an angling visit to a large pit

When I go to work, as in a midweek trip to Park Hall, invariably I take some fishing gear with me.

Today’s plan was to fish a pit on the way home, and due to major delays on the road getting there, it was the right way round as opposed to angling on the journey there, as I lost a significant amount of time just sitting in a stationary line of vehicles.

I fished with four white maggots over brown crumb and white maggots.

I did blank, but bringing things into perspective though, it is a tough venue.

I didn’t have a single tap on the rod.

Speaking to someone who fishes it on a regular basis for carp, he did nineteen sessions before he caught his first fish!

He is a novice though but the fact remains that it’s not a runs water.

He also told me about an angler who fished seven nights for one fish last week.

Tackle: Fox Barbel Special 11’ 1.5 test curve rod and an Okuma Zeon reel loaded with 6lb Maxima Chameleon. The bomb was 3/8 ounce and the hook a size 10 Drennan Super Specialist.

Nature notes: Pair of great crested grebes displaying. Two oystercatchers calling in flight. Sand martins c.170 passing through, fed over the water for about ten minutes before moving on.
