On the canal and sometimes even one fish is a result

I feel blessed to have the Staffordshire/Worcestershire Canal fairly close to where I live.

If you fish a lot, then you need venues that don’t require too much travelling, especially when you do lots of short sessions, as I do.

On this trip, I didn’t like the look of the water colour, following heavy rain.

I’ve had this before and it’s been the kiss of death as far as catching is concerned.

However, as long as your bait’s in the water and all that.

I fished close to a bridge and baited two spots, one immediately next to it and the other away and into open water.

Brown crumb and mixed maggots was the approach to draw fish in and get them feeding.

It was the spot next to the bridge that avoided a blank, when a small roach took the two white maggots.

Two other nearby anglers blanked, so looking at the big picture, sometimes even one fish is a result.

Tackle: Greys Prodigy TX 12’ rod. Shimano 3500M reel. Maxima Chameleon 4lb line. Drennan 0.6g waggler. Drennan Super Specialist size 14 hook.

Nature notes: Ranging from a group of five to single birds, a total of eight ravens seen, all in flight.
