Boxing Day fishing

A short December 26 session.

Although I didn’t get to bed until 2.00 a.m. I was still up at first light to go fishing.

The roads were very quiet as I made my way to a small pond, where I spent an hour or so.

That’s the beauty of keeping your rods assembled and ready to go, you can be fishing in no time at all.

Flicking the float just off the rod tip, I settled back and waited for the first bite.

Once it came, the roach were regular.

I even had a bite-off from a small pike, which I saw in the water as I struck.

I loose fed maggots and the water was just over two feet deep, so quite shallow.

With just one shot either side of the float, I let the bait sink naturally, and caught a few fish on the drop.

The bites were regular and although the roach weren’t big, it was a small pool and I enjoyed it.

Tackle: Greys Prodigy TX 12’ rod. Shimano 3500M reel. Maxima Chameleon 4lb line. Drennan 0.6g waggler. Drennan Super Specialist size 14 hook.

Nature notes: The run of exceptionally mild conditions continues and it certainly fooled a magpie with nesting materials in its beak.
