Fishing a small pond in heavy rain

The angling session in question was another visit to a small pond.

Just eighteen inches deep, I fished with a small float and a couple of maggots on a size 14 hook. Line strength was 4lb.

The rain was particularly heavy and consistent but that’s never an issue when I’m fishing.

In many ways I prefer it, as it does mean it’s much quieter, which is preferable especially on more intimate venues.

I was only fishing one rod length from the bank and so dropped the float in, loose feeding a few maggots on a regular basis.

What I did was cast after the freebies had gone in, which resulted in a lot of fish on the drop.

I caught predominantly roach on this occasion with a few perch.

The action was constant and I was there for just over an hour.
