Monday memories: First European working game
The reason that I won’t be fishing for a few days is because I’m on my football travels, this time to Luxembourg.
That, combined with watching (on television) Haverfordwest County play their game in the Faroe Islands the other day, brought back memories.
My very first European fixture with The New Saints was in the summer of 2015, when we played B36 Tórshavn (Haverfordwest’s opponent) on the road.
I’ve worked at numerous fixtures in the Champions League, Europa League and Europa Conference League since, but as it was the first, that one will always be very special.
We played at the national stadium and the image at the top of the page is me on the centre spot.
After going 1-0 down in the early minutes, we equalised just after, before getting a late winner.
I loved the whole Faroe Islands experience, not just the football, and it was great to return three years ago when we once again played B36.
It’s a beautiful country, and without doubt, one that I would never have visited had it not been for working in the beautiful game.
Football has been very kind to me and has been responsible for so many great memories and hopefully many more to come.
I just bought a cheap Tenkara rod and will try it out probably next week. I’ll let you know how it goes!
Sounds good, Byrl. Please do and tight lines.
