I’m thoroughly enjoying a couple of hours or so at the start of the day pursuing tench.
My procedure is the same each time as well.
On arrival, I mix some brown crumb, add maggots, and prepare the swim.
On this occasion I was fishing less than two rod-lengths from the bank and just off the drop-off that skirts that section of the lake.
I immediately had tench feeding bubbles over the baited area, which although is a great sign, isn’t a guarantee that you’ll catch a tinca.
In fact, the first – and only – fish was a roach.
