🎣 A final fling on the tench lake and a very pleasant surprise saves the day
What I’ve been calling ‘the tench lake’ this year has, in fact, been anything but. Although I’ve had a few, they have been exactly that. A few.
Usually, especially at the height of summer, the bank has numerous anglers pursuing tincas, with multiple catches of fish the order of the day.
Word gets round quickly and, with it being extremely hard going this season, the fishermen have also done a disappearing act.
It’s £9.50 a day (plus £4.50 to park), so perfectly understandable why they’ve voted with their feet and gone elsewhere instead.
Whether it’s stubbornness or up for a challenge – actually, it’s the latter – I’ve been returning from time to time, with my best this year at 6-3-12.
I decided to have a final fling to see if I could end the tench season on a high.
Although there were roach topping, I didn’t see even one patch of tinca bubbles.
As you can see in the video though, a pike saved the day. This was followed by a flurry of small roach activity to end the session.
I always keep an eye open regarding the natural world when fishing and a pair of kingfishers in flight together was the highlight, followed by a single bird later. Six swallows passed through, in a southerly direction.
