🦅 🎣 A bird of prey on the lawn and fish in the net on a lake

📹 Footage of the sparrowhawk and the fish

After a week away in the Emerald Isle, it was good to get back fishing.

Before I even left home though it was nice to see a sparrowhawk feeding on the lawn, although not nice for the bird that it killed, but nevertheless that’s nature and it’s ‘cruel’ sometimes.

Pursuing tench, I arrived at the lake in question, mixed brown crumb and sweetcorn threw it out at 20 metres, cast out, settled back and made my first cup of tea of the day.

The venue has been fishing very slow of late, so I wondered what it would be like after a week away.

However, when I had my first bite and lifted into it, that was an encouraging sign.

Thankfully, I landed the fish, and I say ‘thankfully’ because it was the only one of the session

Having said that, it was a very short trip anyway, and I did bank a quality roach as well.

Tackle: Fox Barbel Special 1.5 test curve rod and an Okuma Zeon reel. 6lb Maxima Chameleon, with a six-inch hook-length created by a small shot and an 8mm bead. Above that was a 1/2 ounce lead. Size 10 Drennan Super Specialist hook. Bait was a single grain of corn.

Nature notes: Common/Arctic tern mobbed by a black-headed gull over the lake.
